Dental Veneers at Clent Dental Care

Dental Veneers
What are Veneers?

A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of a tooth. Veneers can improve the colour, shape and position of your teeth. A precise shade of porcelain can be chosen to give the right colour to improve a single discoloured tooth or to lighten the front of the teeth. A veneer can make a chipped tooth look intact again. The porcelain covers the whole of the front tooth with a thicker section replacing the broken part. Veneers can also be used to straighten teeth. You can also choose the shade of the veneers. Veneers make the teeth look natural and healthy. Because they are thin and are held in place by bond and permanent cement.

What will my dentist do?
Very little preparation of the tooth is needed; some of the outer enamel surface of the tooth is removed, to make sure that the veneer can be bonded permanently. The amount of enamel removed is tiny and will be the same as the thickness of the veneer. This means the tooth will be the same size as before. A local anaesthetic may be used to make sure there is no discomfort. Once the tooth has been prepared, Dr Turner will then take an impression, this will be given to the dental technician to create the veneer. A veneer takes at least two visits: the first appointment is to prep the tooth and take the impression which is for about half an hour. The second appointment will be 1-2 weeks after the first appointment; this is to fit the veneer. We will make sure that you are happy with the veneers before we bond them on to your teeth. After we have prepped the teeth we will put a temporary veneer on the tooth. After the veneer has been fitted you then treat it as a normal tooth. Veneers should last for many years, but if they did chip or fracture you have a 5 year warranty with us, this means we will replace for you.

What are the benefits?
1. Veneers can greatly improve your appearance. They hide imperfections and you loose very little natural tooth material
2. Veneers protect teeth from any more damage. Tooth surface can be dissolved away by acid in the mouth (usually from too much citrus fruit or fruity acidic drinks) this makes the teeth sensitive to hot and cold and here veneers can protect the teeth
3. If the tooth is strong a veneer is often a better option than a crown for improving the tooth's appearance.

Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are a great way to improve self-confidence, encouraging you to smile more.
Porcelain veneers are used to transform the appearance of teeth by hiding discolouration and stains, closing gaps or making teeth appear straighter.
They are very thin and individually made pieces of porcelain that are cemented to the front of the teeth.
