What is orthodontics?
Orthodontic treatment uses braces to reposition and straighten teeth.
There are different types :
Teeth can cause all sorts of problems, especially when they are coming through.
They can be very crowded...
... get stuck between other teeth...
... be missing altogether...
... or be in the wrong place.
Straight teeth look great and help you smile with confidence. Orthodontics can improve function and make cleaning easier. This helps keep your teeth and gums healthy for life, provided you look after them.
Fixed orthodontic appliances
Fixed braces are cemented onto the teeth and should only be removed by your dentist. Due to the fact they remain in the mouth for the duration of treatment they must be cleaned on a regular basis by the wearer. Treatment normally takes 6-24 months to complete. Depending on the severity of the initial problem. Fixed appliances are designed to be as smooth as possible. However, in a mouth that is it not used to them initial discomfort is not uncommon. If the appliance rubs your mouth wax is available from us. A small piece of this should be removed and rubbed between your finger and thumb to soften the wax. It should then be applied to the part of the appliance which is rubbing. Your mouth usually adapts to the appliance after a day or two. The discomfort is usually temporary. After fitting, or after adjustments of the appliance, it is not unusual to experience a little discomfort. We recommend taking some pain killers just in case.
Your appliance should be cleaned by regular brushing around and between the brackets at least three times a day, especially after meals. A fluoride mouth wash is recommended on a regular basis, failure to keep the appliance clean may lead to progressive decay.
Dietary advise for fixed appliances; try to avoid chewy foods as it may get stuck between the braces. It is best to avoid fizzy drinks as they contain acid which can damage your teeth. However if you drink fizzy drinks then drink through a straw. You fixed appliances will need to be adjusted monthly as the teeth will be moving.
Orthodontic treatment can take up to 2 years (occasionally longer) to complete. During this time you will need to attend regularly for appointments (about every 6 weeks).
Orthodontic treatment is not essential in the sense that it may save your life, but it may be advisable to help ensure the long terms survival of your dentition. However, you play a key role in its success which very much depends on your cooperation.
Once treatment has started it should be completed, otherwise you may be worse off, especially if teeth have been extracted.
You also need to:
◊ Be seen regularly for adjustments

Your patients are asking for it and you need a real cosmetic option. Every Radiance bracket is a polished jewel, made from single crystal pure grown sapphire, the second hardest mineral known to man. Each crystal is honed and then heat polished into a superbly smooth, incredibly clear, and astoundingly strong bracket. Once bonded, Radiance is nearly invisible on the tooth.Clinical Benefits
Fracture Resistance: Radiance is designed to be the strongest possible ceramic bracket. Monocrystalline formation gives Radiance a solid core structure as opposed to a strand structure in polycrystalline. A special heat treat process is then used to seal the bracket and ensure no fissures exist in the surface structure. The result is a remarkably strong bracket that is far less likely to fail during treatment.
Strong and Easy to Tie: A chain is only as strong as its weakest link; that is why special care was placed in developing the tie wings. Radiance tie wings are designed with a smooth radius on the base of the wing to reduce fracture. To make it easier to tie, the under tie wing space was enlarged for easy placement of elastics, ligatures, and chain.
Rotational Control: Controlling rotation is a paramount concern for orthodontists, so our engineers took advantage of the cosmetic properties of Radiance and made the maxillary centrals and cuspids with optimum mesial-distal width. The clinician has greater rotational of anterior teeth with no cosmetic loss for the patient.
Easy to Place: In order to help you place Radiance crystal clear brackets accurately, a special food grade colorant is applied to the vertical and horizontal axes of the bracket, which act like crosshairs for accurately viewing the translucent bracket against enamel. These visual cues assist you with placing Radiance brackets in the correct position on the tooth. Once the brackets are bonded, simply ask the patient to brush and the color rinses away.Patient Benefits
Smooth Comfort: As much as you will love treating with Radiance, your patients will love wearing them. Radiance is smooth to the touch making them safe and comfortable for the patient.
Invisible: Just place the brackets and watch your patient smile. Patients concerned about their appearance in metal brackets can now take comfort that their braces are virtually invisible, giving them confidence in work and social situations.
No Staining: Not only do the brackets look great, they stay that way. Radiance's monocrystalline structure and highly polished surface serve as barriers to undesirable staining elements.
